Resources for Commissioning Providers

The CCC offers several resources for commissioning providers. Below we suggest how to utilize them. If you have comments about how to improve these resources, or ideas for new resources, please contact us.

Library

The Library contains more than 300 commissioning related documents. If you have a document to add to the library, please send it to us. Current holdings include:

  • Technical guides to benchmarking building performance, functional testing, control system design, dataloggers, and many others;

  • Sample commissioning documents including Cx and RCx plans, functional test plans and verification checklists;

  • Articles from ASHRAE Journal and HPAC;

  • Advice and guidelines specifically for commissioning K-12 schools; and

  • Conference papers from the National Conference on Building Commissioning, the International Conference for Enhanced Building Operations and ACEEE Summer Study.

Tools and Templates

These pages contain sample documents, templates and spreadsheet tools that help commissioning providers and building owners plan, scope and execute commissioning and retrocommissioning projects.

Cx Database

The Cx Database was created to collect detailed, standardized information about commissioning projects. Providers can use the data to convince owners of commissioning's value and to learn from their peers, thus raising the overall quality of commissioning services in California. You must register to use the database by completing a simple form. Then, you may begin entering your project data. You may also search the database to find projects that meet your specifications, and print a one-page case study to present to an owner.

Cx Assistant

This web-based tool helps you scope and create documentation for your commissioning projects. Once you enter information about your project, the tool uses your data to suggest:

  • Probable commissioning cost;

  • Appropriate commissioning scope;

  • Sample scope documents;

  • Sample design intent documents;

  • Sample commissioning specifications; and

  • Sample sequences of operations for HVAC equipment.

Functional Testing Guide

The Functional Testing Guide provides a practical understanding of fundamentals, as well as field tips for functional testing. It is a tool for designers and commissioning providers to help ensure efficiency and performance and includes guidance and sample tests for air handlers, chillers, boilers, condensers, and pumping systems, as well as advice on how to achieve integrated operation.

The Guide allows easy access to the many functional tests collected in the Commissioning Test Protocol Library (CTPL), explaining the "how" and "why" behind the functional tests in the CTPL. The Guide's main web page also contains links to integrated resources - the Functional Testing Checklist Tool, Test Directory, and Control System Design Guide.

Case Studies

The CCC has collected case studies on building commissioning, retrocommissioning and energy efficiency projects from around the country. They are organized in two sortable tables. Case studies can be provided to building owners to demonstrate commissioning's effectiveness on projects similar to their own, or to help you find other providers who have experience on particular project types. If you have a case study to add to our website, please send it to us.

How to Select a Provider

The primary purpose of this resource is to help building owners select a provider. However, some information may be useful to providers as well:

  • Recommended provider qualifications;

  • A description of available certification programs;

  • Sample commissioning/retrocommissioning documents; and

  • A table of providers doing business in California, including samples of their work.

If you'd like to be listed in this section, please send us your application form.
